The Valenen

Though Trenoc society has been greatly structured around the existing clan systems present, even before true civilization arose after the revelation, there has been a number of unusual cases. The Valenen are one of only a few major ‘kin-less’, deriving their members not through their descendents, but rather recruiting members from other clans.

The Valenen have also been very important throughout Trenoc history, their name deriving from Valen, meaning sacred or divine, they are referred to as ‘sacred ones’. Though there numbers are few they have exerted a strong force in shaping the Trenoc society. The Valenen are also the most secretive of the ‘kin-less’ clans, and although nowadays they have a public side, much is still unknown about the deeply levels within this clan.

The origins of the Valenen are not clearly known, it is widely believed that the initial members of this unusual clan are actually Soroteth, and that after a few generations they had to recruit the native population to continue their work. Though the Valenen refuse to confirm this, there is some unusual evidence, which suggests certainly something unusual is going on within the secretive part of the Valenen.

The Valenen recruit their members at the breeder stage, selecting from any clan any breeders with unusual ability (mental excellence generally), though one would expect that the clans would not want to give up their members to the Valenen, there has long been a respect for them, and it is more of an honour to a family if they can claim they have clan relatives within the Valenen. It is thought that the Valenen do possess a line of breeder males, some evidence of this has been confirmed from the fact that some Valenen members are not related to any current existing families on Trenoret some believe that are still living descendents of the Soroteth within the Valenen.

Recruited members are transferred to Valenen centres, which are found on every colonized continent, it is though that part of the centre is directed into providing a special environment in which the breeder members are reared (in a way similar to most Laekas), very little is known what happens exactly to the newly adopted Valenen, they are thought to spend a great deal of time in the breeder stage, and are not brought forward as quickly as in the rest of the Trenoc society.

The Valenen protectors are final product, though they are bound to the Valenen, they do acknowledge, and even visit their founding clans, though most stay within Valenen centres.

The purpose of the Valenen is not immediately clear, it is known that they have played important roles in history, possibly shaping the way things are today. On numerous occasions in history have members of the Valenen arrived at the right time to stop a war, or offer assistance in times of crisis. These actions have been interpreted to mean that the Valenen are acting as living members of the Soroteth, overseeing and guarding the developing Trenoc civilization.

It is also well known, but very hard to prove, that the Valenen possess very advanced technology, though we have not seen much of it today, in times past the Valenen have been described with powers and tools which far exceeded the technology available at the time. Some say that this technology was known to the Soroteth, and passed down through the ages to new Trenoc members. It is also hard to provide an alternate explanation if we do not except that the Valenen are not Soroteth descendents, as this would mean incredibly technological development within a small clan in a short period of time.

The Valenen are roughly reliant on no other clan for their survival, there few members mean that they do not own large amounts of land, nor do they have any large-scale resource collection operations. Though in modern times they are one of the few clans that have extensive orbital facilities and colonies within the Trenoret system. It is thought that although some Valenen members work to produce the essential services for the Valenen, most members (if not all) participate in clan affairs, it is thought that they have an extensive intelligence gathering network, which concords with the idea that they monitor Trenoc development. The Valenen are also known to have extensive laboratories at their disposal, many Trenoc discoveries are thought to be sourced from these facilities.

Modern abilities of the Valenen are unknown, some suggest that their extensive space facilities mean that they are even now communicating with the Soroteth. A question has also been raised on the issue of the age of the space facilities. During the later space age the Trenoc discovered some Valenen bases, which the Valenen did not try to deny, but no-one can record any launches or information concerning these bases formation. In modern times the Valenen are observed to have their own space traffic, though like all Trenoc craft form part of the Federation. It is also worth remembering that the Valenen were an essential element in Trenoc contact missions, they essentially provided the Trenoc people with the designs and facilities to construct the contact craft, the Valen, as well as providing some crew. This evidence also suggests that the Valenen have some experience in interstellar flight before the rest of the Trenoc population.

The common consensus is that the Valenen are somehow related to the past Soroteth civilization, and that not all their actions are known. They have in the past acted as a benign force, even if they are an enigmatic one. The Federation does not intend to attempt a hostile investigation of the Valenen, nor consider covert operations to penetrate into their affairs. The Trenoc treat them with respect and would not allow any outside decision to investigate to occur without extreme political difficulties. It is also the consensus opinion amongst the Trenoc that eventually the Valenen will share with them their secrets.
