Review session 17/01/05 Website’s objective Why do people visit websites? Because they offer what people want What things do they offer? Information Services Community Discussion It only seems logical that people would visit my site for the same reasons So what is my site offering, and how can I improve it to encourage more people to visit Information The website sets out to inform about one person’s (me) alternate reality Current flaws: not enough information Inherent flaws: Probably of interest only to that person (me) Not a wide audience (though lots of rpg stuff, this just isn’t the same) --> insufficient interest What can I include to attract more people? (information wise) More detail, more accessible detail (make it worth visiting)
Include topics which are readily understood (widen audience) Make it an important work in its field (if gain notoriety, attracts people) Services Current flaws: not offering any What services can I offer? Advice on worldbuilding (already started, make interactive?) A place for discussion (again not unreasonable to construct) Links to things that my audience would be interested in Personal correspondence Community Current flaws: though there is a worldbuilding community, I do not have great correspondence with, therefore Should either set about creating a community of responsive and similarly content structured sites (hard not many) Join existing communities, easier perhaps, but I feel that my level of response has branded me the problem child. Discussion: effectively same as community. Further points for consideration Project endpoint: To create and chronicle a reality so complete that it can truly immerse the reader What methods can I employ? Lots of writing Lots of pictures Multimedia/interactivity (?) Discussion/forums/community Prioritize medium term objectives More material More advertisement of site Transfer to another host service, less adverts, easier to browse etc… Set up correspondence with interested parties. |
