Summary:
practically small planet in itself, thought to have been captured.
Summary:
Surface
coverage: land covers a quarter of the surface, seas are salty, similar
in composition to Earth’s, four major continents, two are polar, the
other two lie in the temperate to the tropical climates. The equatorial
regions have many archipelagoes and small landmasses. There are two
small ice sheets on the polar continents
Geology:
planet very rich in metals, and much active volcanism. Plate tectonics
still active, 6 major plates. World also generates large numbers of
volcanic islands, most remaining active for very long time periods.
Climate:
most of the planets enjoys tropical climates, up to the 50°
latitudes, the rest covers the usual temperate to tundra. Axial
inclination provides moderate seasonal changes. Weather is highly
variable, monsoons and seasonal storm can be expected nearly anywhere,
more violent forms of weather, hurricanes and superstorms, mostly above
or below equatorial regions. Moderate tides produced by moons, stronger
in combination.
Life:
diverse, colonizing all major ecological niches, but life itself is
fairly limited to plant analogues and simple animal like organisms. The
plant life is incredibly diverse, somewhere in the deep history, some
forms of plant life has evolved towards animal functions, while still
being photosynthetic they have an ability to move, some are even aerial
(though are gas buoyed), an evolution of nervous system like components
can be observed in more advanced types. Animal life limited to worm and
coelenterate like creatures for the most part. Bacteria and protist like
life as diverse as Earth’s. No biota is harmful to the colonists, no
disease reported or discovered while planet being surveyed.
Colonies: the planet was
open to colonization in federation year 81 (earth time 2005), and in by
earth time 2200, the planetary population is about 200 million, with
most colonists being either Trenoc or Panatrak, human population is
around 40 million. Colonies mostly lay in the equatorial region, on the
islands and small landmasses, though some colonies to be found in far
north, the positions of both put them out of the way of the worst of the
weather. Population includes large numbers of biologists who are still
investigating the diverse flora 300 hundred years after the first
detailed survey missions.
