MAWA-REI HISTORY: OVERVIEW

The Mawa-rei are not a federation race, and indeed originate far from the federation’s home on the galactic plane, but their recent conflict with the Federation means that the history of their culture deserves mention to provide extra information on the events during the War.

When we begin to examine the origins of this star faring species we can draw clear parallels to Trenoc and Human development, we see at the beginning of their civilization a state of chaos, with petty skirmishes raging continuously among the early peoples.

The early Mawa-rei collected together to form small communities, like small city-states, with a grouped handful of villages banding together for their own mutual protection. These villages like in early human history did not skirmish very often between neighbours, but always hostile to any new invaders. So we get the idea of the early Mawa-rei society being a collection of proto-countries, which themselves are made up of shaky village alliances.

Even in this high-tension environment we have already exceeded what the Trenoc first achieved, even though Mawa-rei history is initially troubled by wars, it is peaceful compared to the millennia of combat we see in early Trenoc society.

However it is at this point where the Mawa-rei diverge sharply from the other examples. We begin to see alliances between countries, mostly those that share the same faith (a binding force that would over time grow stronger and stronger), and we see the elimination of weak or threatening countries, from coordinated attacks. Most of the Mawa-rei originated in one country, but they chose wise alliances, growing strong on victories, so strong that they began to consume their once allies. In a space of a few hundred years the Mawa-rei had managed to take over a great amount of the surface of their homeworld, and had weakened their allies to the point that they could no longer coordinate enough power to keep the Mawa-rei from becoming unbeatable.

The result was inevitable, the Mawa-rei had managed to conquer their world, those that were not conquered were taken over, and a new phase in their world history had taken place, with no enemies outside of their borders, trouble began to arise within.

In other civilizations great empires naturally fragment, and return to their world a chaos of different countries until more technological times, but in the early Mawa-rei society, a long process of reinforcing their own power took place, a regime so strict, and power absolute, that after another few hundred years the Empire was unshakeable, no other way of life was remembered. From this point their have been no major threatening assaults on the Empire, there have been minor revolts, but the propaganda, and swift merciless punishment of the offenders only served to reinforce order.

The major bonding principle in this new society was religion, something that all the early cultures shared, and like in Trenoc culture, it became an institution that governed all the citizens in the world.

In the post war times everybody enjoyed a new prosperity, a time of almost hedonism, where people could almost do what they pleased, whenever they felt like it, the church even reinforced this kind of behaviour, resulting in even stronger population support of the Empire.

Technology did however stagnate in these post war times, with no driving force, there simply was not the need for innovators, and designers, and although rich in culture the pace of civilization slowed. In these quiet times the church set about rewriting history, telling the people how it was inevitable how the enemies would be defeated, as it was God’s will manifest through them, this set about an idea of conquering bringing purity, that would guide the rest of their history.

With the onset of more technological times, the Mawa-rei discovered the planets in their solar system, and discovered that one of their worlds looked to be a distant paradise, something that the religious scriptures promised, but now instead of a metaphysical paradise described in old books, paradise turned out to be next door. This was obviously a test from God to prove their worth, this small statement alone accelerated technological development tremendously, as the Mawa-rei had a new aim, to capture paradise.

The first attempts were laughable, from dirigibles, and mirrored birds, but from these early mistakes a true space industry developed, and where humanity stumbled around after the industrial age onset, the Mawa-rei powered through, showcasing a continuous line of improving models and technology. However their performance across all the sciences was unequal, though they had firm concepts on physics and mathematics (subjects they valued most importantly to reach this other world), they were still using medicine techniques that had not changed for centuries.

Eventually the first extra planetary probe was built and launched. The eye of God would confirm the findings of telescope studies, it revealed a world clothed in forests and blue seas, in contrast to their homeworld with erratic seasons and great deserts and unforgiving rough oceans. These results reinvigorated the efforts of the Mawa-rei to send explorers, and later, set up large-scale colonization.

As their research and eventual manned landings found, their next planet (literal translation describes a ‘Gift from God’) had at some point in its past had been home to an advanced and sophisticated race. The church had explained this flawlessly, it was simply that God had annihilated these invaders from the Mawa-rei’s paradise, and their technology was a gift to the Mawa-rei to continue their colonization beyond their own system, and into the surrounding Cloud.

It is in such state that the Federation encountered for the first time, they had grown powerful on new technologies, and had successfully managed to create vast construction capability before truly setting on their conquest.

It is this history that had unfortunately created a race stubborn to reason, and bloodthirsty for xenocide, that sparked the first major war to occur on the galactic plane for millennia. Despite their new technological power, and their vast production facilities, the Mawa-rei still had not had a great deal of experience with space, this was used to the Federation’s advantage at the beginning of the war, but soon enough had Mawa-rei pilots learned to become cunning in space warfare, and their technological pace had advanced from plundered technologies. The fight became increasingly desperate, but it was the Federation that slowly began to win the fight, and of course the rest is history. Very little remains of the Mawa-rei Empire, the Federation was spared having to commit xenocide, but we have little information how the elder races are reshaping the Mawa-rei. We can only hope that this young race learns maturity and abandons its old bloodthirsty habits, if not another confrontation may be inevitable, and victory may not be assured a second time.
