PHOLI HISTORY: OVERVIEW

Pholi are the most enigmatic race in the federation, though they play no active part in the fleet or in terms of technology or production, but they are still acknowledged members of the federation. This race was the first to contact the Trenoc, and encouraged the contact of the Trenoc with the Panatrak, so there is no question that they are the foundations of the federation, but since their first instances they have not showed any signs of civilization or technology apart from the most rudimentary, this is by the way of being the greatest mystery.

In true federation space there have been discovered seven Pholi colony worlds that are fairly evenly scattered through the main plane of the federation, each world has similar environmental tolerances, but the climatic range is quite broad, favouring no particular clime as one they are most suited for. The most significant point is that once in their past they had indulged in colonizing other worlds, or were moved by, or requested transport from other races.

The theory that the Pholi had, and some say, still have an age of technology and space-faring was later confirmed by astro-archaeology on the Ancient races ruins and relics, the most significant being the information scavenged from the Cepheid archives, which are the most accessible and comprehensive information on the ancient times that the federation possesses.  The archives show that the Pholi were a recognized race in the ‘High Council’ of the ancient races, the ability for them to be considered for this ultimate of councils in this past age required them to have technological excellence. Extracting information of their technologies and precise history is difficult from the Cepheid archives as it protects this information from young races.

The archives of the High council date back over a million years to the end of the Great Wars, and this infers that the Pholi have at least existed for about the same time. Some have suggested that the Pholi even pre-date this, suggesting that the role they played in uniting the federation could have occurred in parallel a million years ago, bringing together the races of the ‘High Council’, if this theory is correct then the age of the Pholi is inestimable, and the age of their galactic colonization far further back than thought.

With evidence that they have had the technological abilities that were outlined in the Cepheid archives, and an existence that may also pre-date the council, we still have no precise outline of the Pholi’s past, the most tantalizing evidence of the Pholi’s precise history was uncovered later by information revealed by the Derusai object, a race that transcended later than the High Council, but are much earlier than the federation. In this intermediary age, the Derusai were a fairly lonely race amongst the stars, they probably saw the federation races at their earliest stages of development, but no near races of similar technological ability. The Pholi were there greatest real acquaintances, and a race they shared most of their secrets with.

The Derusai information is far more concise than the scattered information and inference gathered form our other sources. The Derusai confirm the Pholi as the remaining corporeal race of the High Council, though they represent this old council in their entirety, they also confirm that the Pholi were independently space-faring in age pre-dating the High Council. Their civilization first saw its spread across the galaxy five million years ago, apparently filling the dead space that another Great War had left. Their spread had been fast, they soon colonized the galaxy, and it has been suggested that they had also spread to other galaxies, for in this age they had achieved technological excellence. The Pholi then encouraged new races to develop to fill the space once again with thousands of harmonious civilizations. For three million years the galaxy was once again filled with countless civilizations that had existed in a harmony creating the High Council.

However this golden age came to an end just over a million years ago, in an event called the Great Wars, which saw total war amongst the races of the civilization thronged galaxy, at the end of this disaster only a few races remained, these reconstructed the High Council, and saw to the clearing of the devastation, ready for a new innocent age. The Pholi were one of the surviving races and took part in the restoration of the High Council, and it was the last time in which they used their technologies to clear the galaxy of the ruins of war. A million years ago the High Council transcended and the Pholi remained to rear and nurture the new races, with the Derusai being one of their first charges. As the Derusai matured they received these stories of the Pholi, and on their monument around the transcension device they tell these stories.

The Derusai evidence indicates that the Pholi have lived through two disasters where the whole galaxy has been brought to silence, the first needed there expansion to encourage a new age, and at the end their fostered races fell apart during the Great Wars leaving the few races of the High Council. In the last million years they have again took the patience of rearing a new galaxy full of civilizations to again banish the silence. But the Derusai evidence does suggest that the Pholi may have lived longer still, we still do not know how many disasters they have seen and took part in repairing the damage done.

The Pholi seem confidant in the federation, which after the information we have uncovered on the past is encouraging, but maybe there is a cyclical nature to the galaxy with the continual rise and fall of great peaceful empires, but there has always been the need for someone to pick up the pieces and to start over again, these may well be the Pholi.
