At
the time of the revelation, where the Soroteth had announced themselves
to their barbarian kin, There presence on Trenoret was in decline, they
had long before started a sequence of steps that the Trenoc would follow
across space thousands of years later.
The
revelation occurred roughly 35,000 years ago, and seems to have affected
every tribal clan across the whole of Trenoret at roughly the same time.
It is thought that by this time the Soroteth civilization had reached a
high level of technological ability, circa Earth in the 2070’s. They
had by this time begun contemplating the idea of leaving there own
homeworld for the neighboring planet of what would be called Soret. The
archaeological evidence that has been collected despite the Soroteth’s
censoring activities shows that by this time most of the Soroteth
population was collected together in tight population centres and during
this period they were slowly erasing their past across most of the
countryside.
It
is almost certain that the Soroteth built an orbital tether to transfer
its people and artifacts into space, and it once stood near the heart of
their continent near the modern city of Hassorot. It is thought that
about 400 hundred years after the revelation most of the Soroteth
population had transferred to the increasingly habitable planet Soret,
and that over the next 200 hundred years the migration would be complete
and the land returned nearly to its natural state with nearly no trace
of the people that had once lived there.
What
happened to the orbital tether is not known, if it was of conventional
design then a 40 thousand kilometre long carbon cable will have had to
be disposed of, it is most likely that the cable, and possible attendant
asteroid were sent into the sun, as no trace of the asteroid or the
cable has ever been found in local space, a more exotic possibility
exists that the asteroid was in fact turned into a spacecraft for
transporting large numbers of the Soroteth, along with some of their
most valued artifacts to Soret.
It
is certain that 700 years after the revelation there were no Soroteth
left as the second colonization of that continent began by explorers
from Jarok who had started to map out the deserted continent. The
Soroteth’s activity in local Trenoret space had also significantly
died down by this point, with very few orbiting satellites observed
(though these could have well been stealthed, as in the later stages of
the Trenoc’s space age some orbiting stations were found.)
From
detailed analysis of Soret, in particular studying the deposition of
water ice at the poles, the transformation of this planet coincided
roughly with the revelation suggesting that at this time the Soroteth
had established a significant base on this planet and were rapidly
bringing about the changes required to make it habitable within the next
few hundred years so that its population could have a second home.
From
the ice records and from other evidence (especially archaeological
artifacts, the Soroteth saw no need to cleanse Soret in the same fashion
as Trenoret) it has been found that the terraforming process may have
only taken two hundred years, with the surface habitable to the Soroteth
as early as 80 years after the revelation. Despite the immense efforts
the Soroteth went to make Soret habitable (which is still the case to
this day) this civilization would not stay long here, since there main
move to space a significant proportion of their population went on to
work in the asteroid belt and further out into the system, it seems that
although they were technologically far away from interstellar flight
they were beginning to make the preparation for this transition.
It
is these asteroid colonies that are perhaps the most revealing about the
Soroteth culture, as apart from the most sophisticated technology they
have been effectively abandoned, (in such good conditions were these
habitats that they were colonized during the Trenoc space age and
provided invaluable outposts in their interplanetary era.
It
is thought that about 400 years after their migration from Trenoret they
had achieved technology of a similar sophistication as the federation,
however we do not see further migration until about 1300 years after the
revelation, what was holding them back is unknown, indeed their
technological pace had slowed somewhat when they began colonizing the
surface of Soret. Perhaps this civilization was taking some time to
understand its place in the universe, we do after all see evidence for
this new contemplative age in the form of impressive structures on the
surface of Soret amongst its new forests.
Beyond
Soret we know little of what the Soroteth did, they left Soret
completely about 14,000 years ago though they had been very much in
decline on this world 2000 years after revelation. Occasionally new
archaeological finds are discovered in federation space suggesting
further history of the Soroteth, but as to the truth there are only
theories. Some have suggested that the Soroteth had settled somewhere
else in federation space, and had then transcended, or that perhaps as
the federation extends its frontiers they might actually be found, or at
least the remains of their civilization post transcension. Some suggest
that the lack of evidence suggests that Soroteth may just be wandering
space, or have perhaps fell victim in some interstellar war in
federation space after there migration. The most enigmatic evidence is
the fact that Pholi know well the Soroteth, suggesting that they at
least had paid one Pholi world a visit, some suggest that the Pholi
maybe even granting the Soroteth sanctuary, that the Soroteth might
exist amongst the Pholi population, or that the Pholi offered the
Soroteth transcendence so they could watch their siblings develop and
evolve without fear of the chaos they would cause them.
The
Trenoc remain hopeful of one day contacting the Soroteth, they have been
the guiding light in their civilization since its formation, and even as
space opens up for exploration the Trenoc feel that the Soroteth will
lead them into new understanding about them and themselves. |
