The Fenrir Class:

Overview:

The Fenrir class was designed as an advanced fighter craft, and as such it superceded the small Orca ranges for sheer military prowess, however it would only ever be a military vehicle, where as the Orca of similar design class continued to serve not only in their military roles but also a whole host of other functions.

The Fenrir class was born in the age of armament, it was a hard hitting military vessel whose component parts had been field tried in the Orca craft, but assembled together into one craft the product was far surpassing in military terms the Orca craft of similar niche. There are a few major differences, between the two craft, the Fenrir craft had a much more powerful armament, though actually boasting less actual weapons, and some reduced fields of fire, the forward weapons it did have could inflict many times the damage of an Orca whose smaller more dispersed weapons platforms were better for defense.

Late in the Orca design phase the designers decided to try and integrate one of the concepts they initially rejected in the overall design, advanced stealth technology, whose sophistication at that time did not merit sacrificing fire power, and internal volume to accommodate it. Nonetheless, many of the later Orcas were refitted to accommodate this technology and although it made them a magnitude stealthier, it was still a sacrifice to fire power, and stealth could only be used really well in non-standard situations (such as adrift, no power to engines).

The Fenrir class was designed from the start to have stealth on its side, the design’s fanciful looking blades actually contain row upon row of sensitive instruments whose purpose is to interfere and silence all the internal activity from external sensors, the degree of sophistication in its stealth design allowed it to be at rest far stealthier than refitted Orcas, and a magnitude quieter whilst in flight. The ability to fly stealthed was one of the major advances displayed in this vehicle.

Although the Orca range had set out to provide at many levels craft for attack and defence, and an ability to have other functions, the Fenrir class was designed with one purpose, it is this sole purpose in mind throughout its design that has made it the better craft for aggressive and covert missions. The Orca was built in a time where real war was out of mind, though it boasts significant firepower, and is very adaptive, it does not have the focused wrath f the Fenrir class.
