Local
space has been home to many cultures during Galactic history, though many
of these civilizations have long since disappeared without a trace, more
recent civilizations have been found. These past civilizations have been
important in establishing the history of the Galactic past and have more
importantly told us of how interstellar cultures worked.

Soroteth:
Era
of interstellar flight:
14,000 yrs ago – today?
Species
local: Yes, physiologically identical to Trenoc, originally shared the
Homeworld Trenoret before terraforming the world Soret, current
existence and location not known.
Evidence:
Extensive in Trenoc History (crucial in shaping modern Trenoc mind
state), since they have left vast amounts of evidence has been
uncovered, from the extremely simple to the very sophisticated.
Artifacts
recovered: Vast
numbers of artifacts recovered, with varying technological levels,
perhaps the most important artifacts recovered are the
‘pre-interstellar’ technologies, particularly computers and
cybernetic equipment. The later has formed some of the modern Federation
models of Neural interfaces and have more generally improved our
understanding of machine-mind technologies.
Additional
Information:
The search for the Soroteth is of great concern to the Trenoc, as well
as an important interest for the other Federation races. For the Trenoc
this search is motivated by kinship, though there are other reasons,
their sophistication and benefaction offer the hope of a powerful and
benign ally, one which will perhaps aid the Federation.

Derusai:
Era
of interstellar flight: Approximately 1,000,000 to 800,000 years ago
Species
local: Species Homeworld is situated on the Periphery of Federation
space, there are few confirmed colony worlds, though there are many
xeno-archaeology sites of similar age and unconfirmed identity, the
Derusai are suspected to have had many colony worlds.
Evidence:
The Derusai are responsible for some of the greatest megastructures in
local space, the most unequivocal of which is the Derusai Temple-Space
object, which is thought to be some colossal transcension device, it is
from this monumental relic that most of our understanding of the Derusai
has been derived. The Derusai seem not to have been prolific space-craft
builders, but there is no doubt to their spread in local space, their
Homeworld perhaps offers the most information, as on its surface there
still remains ruins and any number of artifacts. However access to this
treasure trove has been restricted, as the ancient Homeworld is
protected from low orbit by Derusai relics, which although benign stop
most investigations of the surface.
Artifacts
recovered:
Because of the restrictions in place on their Homeworld most artifacts
recovered are either of colony worlds or of space origin, despite being
a relatively well known local race, the Federation actually has little
physical evidence in their position to show for it.
Additional
information:
The Derusai occupied a relatively peaceful time in galactic history, the
same era in which the Federation had formed, partly because of this the
Derusai had explored widely, and despite their isolation they came to
learn a great deal, especially about the truly ancient races. The
Derusai are also one of the more likely species that the Federation has
any chance to speak with soon, both the Derusai transcension device and
the Homeworld relics are likely to be home to some kind of machine
entity.

Thule:
Era
of interstellar flight:
circa 3,000,000 years ago
Species
local:
Within local space but at Federation periphery.
Evidence:
Thule civilization was a highly industrious race, though it can boast no
known wonders they can be credited with producing huge numbers of
starships and colonies, however due to the fact that era is so long past
censoring activities have taken there toll on their relics.
Artifacts
recovered:
Thule civilization ships are amongst some of the most frequently
recovered derelicts, though these finds represent only a minute fraction
of their huge fleets, the greater remainder can be seen in
Hasardi-Amorok Relic ground, and numerous other places of storage.
Fortunately the derelicts found have been able to provide us with quite
a lot of information, their colony worlds have generally degenerated too
far to yield much in the way of their technological sophistication.
Additional
information:
The Federation still knows relatively little about the Thule
civilization, they are suspected of commanding a sizable empire in their
age. There is a growing consensus that the Thule civilization was an
aggressive militaristic one, its ships were heavily armed, and their
production capabilities prodigious. However despite the evidence this
conclusion remains unsupported and it can also be assumed that an Empire
that size required a defensive fleet of this size.

Kodenn:
Era
of interstellar flight:
Circa 8,000,000 years ago
Species
local:
No, Homeworld unknown, suspected of being far core-ward of Federation
space. Despite this there exists in Local space the evidence for at
least one colony world, and perhaps others.
Evidence:
Most of the Evidence of the Kodenn comes from archaeology of ruins on
Liara, from which a substantial amount of information has been gathered.
As yet no other source of Kodenn artifacts is known, though it is
probable that some space derelicts are likely to be Kodenn ships.
Artifacts
recovered:
Apart from the limited artifacts recovered on Liara, the Federation has
few other confirmed artifacts of the Kodenn. Most of the successfully
recovered artifacts are domestic in nature, or objects (often decorative
or artistic in function) made out of durable materials.
Additional
information:
The Kodenn inhabited an interesting period in Galactic history, being
far older than most other near space species. If the Kodenn had expanded
in such a diffuse way, this either suggests almost complete isolation or
else completely peaceful times, as their seemed no urge to form a
consolidated Empire. The Kodenn are a particularly attractive species to
study because they could hold the key to galactic heritage other than
local space, which is at the moment very poor.
